We’ve all see the headlines. Women taken (you know what that means for them), men murdered and children – yes, children – beheaded. At first I couldn’t stomach the news. I wouldn’t tune in or read the updates before bed. It was too troubling. Then I was overcome with sadness and the tears were always very near the surface. Now…well, now I’m mad. And ready to do something.
It is so sad to think in this day and age such hate exists. Genocide. That is what is being attempted here.
I don’t want to stand idly by. Yet, half a world away, what can I do?
This is what I was pondering when the answer came to me. I was invited to participate in the #IAmYourVoice campaign, and speak for those who are being silenced through oppression, aggression and death. We are linking arms in solidarity of heart.
And now, I’m inviting YOU to join us as well. We need you. They need you.
How Can You Help?
PRAY. You can be an intercessor. God’s word says He hears our prayers and will answer us (Isiah 30:19, Psalm 86:7, Romans 10:13, and more). Join the prayer team! You’ll receive updates on this initiative and specific prayer needs.
SHARE. We’re taking to social media to spread the word. Create a photo or video of yourself holding an #IAmYourVoice sign or photo and share it via social media. Consider making it your avatar and encourage your friends to do the same.
GIVE. Can you donate financially? Every dollar counts. You can make a one time gift or sign up to give monthly. Your donation will go to support Food for the Hungry. They are partnering with the Lebanese Society for Educational and Social Development (LSESD) which works with the local church in the Middle East to help those fleeing the ISIS onslaught to find safety and shelter.
I humbly ask you to participate in whatever way you can. This threat is very real. Thousands have been forced from their homes, fleeing for their lives. May we be aware and vigilant of the suffering of others.
Although this is going on so very far away, let us not become complacent and think there is no threat to us. ISIS is an organization bent on destroying anyone who does not agree with their beliefs. Anyone. The west included. We just spent a day of remembrance for 9/11. Never Forget.
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
